Islamic mysticism, from its inception and maturation, has encountered diverse paths of spiritual wayfaring. Seekers would choose their method according to their epistemological foundations and intuitive experiences, which led to differences in doctrine. This article attempts to analyze and explicate Hafez's spiritual methodology based on "divine attraction" (jadhbah) and "providential grace" (ʿināyat). The present investigation is a theoretical study conducted through descriptive-analytical research methods, with Hafez's Divan as its scope and statistical population. Research findings indicate that in his journey toward spiritual perfection, Hafez places greatest emphasis on the benevolence and support of the Beloved, which he refers to as "providential grace" and its synonyms. While Hafez does not overlook the importance of spiritual effort in his amorous wayfaring, he strives to traverse the perfecting stages of divine proximity accompanied by "grace." Based on the research data, one can conclude that in Hafez's view, a spiritual path predicated solely on ascetic struggles and austerities, without benefiting from the effusion of the Absolute Benefactor, is insufficient to achieve its purpose. Furthermore, Hafez considers hopeful expectation as the factor of salvation in the eternal realm as well.
