Abstract:   (2582 Views)
the book The Metaphors We Live By. In his view, metaphor was no longer merely a rhetorical and specific element of the language of poetry, but they believed that the basis of human thought was metaphorical. Although cognitive metaphors were first explored in everyday language, but given the abstraction of mystical language, it slowly replaced its place in mystical studies. Rumi's Masnavi is one of the largest books of mystical poetry in which cognitive study of abstract concepts has a special place. One of these concepts is imagination. This research is a descriptive-analytic study of the element of imagination in Rumi's Masnavi. Initially, a report is presented on the types of cognitive metaphors centered on imagination in Masnavi, and then the author analyzes these metaphors from a cognitive perspective. An examination of the cognitive form of imagination in Rumi's Masnavi shows that he has chosen the sensory or objective realms of main target in order to conceive of this abstract concept.Among the metaphors used by Rumi in Masnavi, "imagination is Volumetric " and "imagination is vital" have the most frequency, followed by "imagination is image / picture" and "imagination is trap". They appear to reflect Rumi's vision of the imagination.
Keywords: Cognitive Metaphor, Mysticism, Rumi, Masnavi, Imagination.
