Tawakkul (trust in God), tafwīḍ (entrusting one’s affairs to God), riḍā (contentment with the divine will), and taslīm (surrender to the divine will) are among the key concepts in the Qur’anic teachings and Islamic mysticism, all of which concern the believer’s relationship with God and acceptance of His will. The present study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of these four concepts, clarify their conceptual distinctions and interrelationships, and examine the manner in which they are attained within the framework of Qur’anic teachings and Islamic mystical thought. The study employs a systematic review of the literature, combined with qualitative content analysis and discourse analysis. Qur’anic texts, relevant Islamic traditions, classical mystical works, and studies published during the past three decades in Persian, Arabic, and English were examined. The findings indicate that, although each of the four concepts possesses a distinct meaning, they are closely interconnected within the process of spiritual wayfaring and may be understood as successive degrees of faith, trust, surrender, and contentment. Tawakkul constitutes the foundational stage, in which the believer performs the necessary actions while entrusting the outcome to God. Taslīm denotes a deeper inward acceptance of divine decree, while tafwīḍ involves a more comprehensive entrustment of one’s affairs to God. Riḍā represents the culmination of this process, in which the believer attains heartfelt contentment with whatever God wills. The study further demonstrates that these concepts do not imply passivity, abandonment of human agency, or determinism; rather, they establish a spiritual framework in which active effort is accompanied by reliance upon divine wisdom. The integrated development of tawakkul, taslīm, tafwīḍ, and riḍā consequently contributes to the deepening of faith, ethical self-cultivation, inner tranquility, and practical monotheism.
